RIDGE

Ridge will always be the home I associate with my grandparents, Fred & Ethel Mildon. I thought there would be interest in showing an aerial photograph of the property (courtesy of Google Earth)

The east wing appears to have had one or even two extensions judging by the colour of the roof tiles. The fruit and vegetable plots and the orchard have all gone.
There was a cement path all around the house and the section outside the coal shed made a funny noise as you ran over it. I left my sister hanging upside down in an apple tree in the orchard whilst I went for help to get her down. It was lovely picking and shelling peas from the garden and eating rasberries from the cane. I think grandpy found a gold coin in that large field to the west.
Uncle Ron's (husband to my late aunt Doreen) brother (Frank Discombe) had a workshop to the north of the property. There appears to be similar activity still going on there today.
I remember playing whist, Newmarket and dominoes with my grandparents.
Who remembers the round tin of buttons? Then there was the wooden stool next to the cream coloured Aga in the kitchen where the radio would play "Mrs Dale's Diary" and "The Archers" (Jack Woolley had all his marbles then and Walter Gabriel was still walking the fields).
